Got a Christmas food hangover? Here's how to feel well & energised quickly
I overdid it on Boxing Day.
There was a variety of meats, spring roll type things, cheeses and roast potatoes. There’s something about a buffet type meal we just tend to overeat, don’t we? Especially when with family at Christmas time or maybe that’s just me! It certainly led me to feel overstuffed and nauseous after. The next morning my brain was foggy, slow, grumpy, my joints clicked and I was bloated and constipated.
The cause was too much acidic foods. Isn’t it interesting that acidic foods tend to be beige, dry, salty or sugary and very more-ish?
And isn’t it interesting that alkalising foods tend to be colourful, natural, full of moisture, and quick to satisfy?
If you have overdone it too you can recover quickly by choosing raw and cooked vegetables (steamed is best), also think lentils, beans, peas, avocados, and fruit the following day. Liquid chlorophyll from Nature’s Sunshine is very good to add to a glass of water, as are green powders that you mix with water and drink such as Rheal Superfoods Clean Greens. Drink a good amount of water during the day so that your urine is pale yellow. Spirulina taken in powder or capsule form is another great way to help your body’s pH levels come to balance. Rich in nutrients and protein, taking spirulina is also a good way to help curb cravings for sugary, salty or rich foods. Making home-made juices from vegetables and fruit is another quick way to alkalise your body.
Ultimately, it’s ideal to have a good balance between all the food groups, while treat foods in small amounts are actually good for us, and keeps our inner child happy! The trouble is, it’s easy to overeat them. So this is where we need a measure of self parenting too.
It is possible to find out the pH balance of your body - an important indicator of health - in an easy, cheap way. You can use a pH strip by weeing on it in the morning and comparing the colour against the chart included in the box to ascertain your body’s current pH level. You can buy pH strips online.

Do you have any of these symptoms all year round? If you feel you could do with some digestive support from some kinesiology treatments, or you are concerned about self sabotaging behaviour with your food let me know.
